Desert Rose
Common Name:
Desert Rose
Scientific Name:
Adenium obesum
Also Known As:
Desert Azalea, Mock Azalea

Origin

Native to arid regions of sub-Saharan Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

Description

A striking succulent shrub with a swollen trunk base and trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of pink, red, and white. Its sculptural form makes it a standout ornamental plant.

Light Requirements

Full sun for at least six hours daily. Too little light causes leggy growth and fewer blooms.

Watering

Water sparingly, allowing soil to dry completely between watering. During dormancy (winter), reduce watering significantly.

Top Tips for Care

  • Use a very fast-draining soil mix.
  • Protect from cold; keep above 50°F (10°C).
  • Prune lightly to encourage branching and a tidy shape.
